worried)
Ran321.
Yousuf khan writes Ran123 on Ranjeet's phone and opens it.
He dials a number and waits. Then acts out as if dialing
the number again and again.
YOUSUF KHAN
(in an angry mood)
Yeh Haroon ko keya hogaya hey? Mera
call ko jawab nahey deya. Chaloun

Khan opens the message in-box. He checks the latest messages
sent and soon, finds out Ranjeet's message that was sent to
unknown numbers. Khan reads the message: "They are going to
Salim's Body Shop this afternoon". Khan doesn't waste time and
quickly writes a message to Haroon asking him to send his bank
account information so that he transfers the money coming from
his father's house sale to him. After sending the message,
Khan calls Ranjeet.
YOUSUF KHAN
(putting Ranjeet's cell
phone on the dinner table)
Shukraia Ranjeet bai. Yeh leejey

Mr. Malik, the corrupt politician is sitting on a comfortable
couch wearing a short with no shirt and watching the Z News
Channel as if he is waiting to hear a breaking news. A girl
is giving him a light message.
Seeing the word 'BREAKING NEWS' on the TV screen, a self-
content smile appears on Malik's face.

attempt during the opening ceremony

Nagar. According to the police,
Haroon Malotra, a Canadian business
tycoon and his friend Yousuf Khan

Getting very furious, Mr. Malik, having the TV Remote Control
in hand, throws it at the TV screen. As a result, the Remote
Control breaks apart and the girl who is giving him message
goes one step backward from fear.
Malik's cell phone which is put on a coffee table in front
of him, starts ringing. He answers the phone.
MR. MALIK

Karim Khan goes towards Ranjeet, but the man quickly gets a
pistol out of his pocket and pointing it to Karim, and then
to Yousf Khan says.
RANJEET

Making a pause, Yousuf Khan turns his face to Haroon.
YOUSUF KHAN
Haroon sahab! Do you know those
lines that Juluis Caesar says to his
wife when she forbids him from going
to the Capitol for coronation.
HAROON
"Danger knows full well that Caesar
is more dangerous than he. We're
two lions littered in one day. Cowards
die many times before their deaths.
The valiant never taste of death,
but once".
YOUSUF KHAN
(Putting the barrel
of the gun this time
in Ranjeet's mouth)

releases Ranjeet and turns his face towards Karim Khan.
YOUSUF KHAN

KARIM KHAN
Acha bahye jan.
CUT TO:
INT. ENGLISH CLASS - AFTERNOON
Haroon is teaching Linguistics. There are 12 students, male
and female in the class. He calls on each student and puts
a thick mark in front of his/her name in the attendance sheet.
When he calls the name, Manjeet, he gets no response.
HAROON
This Manjeet sahab has been absent
for the last three days. Does anyone
know anything about him?
RAWUL
Sir, I can give you some information
about him at the end of the class.
HAROON
That's great. So let's start today's
lesson.
Haroon cleans the white board with an eraser in his hand.
HAROON
In today's Linguistics class, we are gonna
learn about phonemes and allophones in the
English Language. Phonemes are the smallest
meaning bearing units of sound an any language,
like [t] [d] [g] [m] [p] etc. But, allophones
are the variations of phonemes in a particular
word. Let's examine the three allophones of
the phoneme [p] when they occur in initial,
medial and final positions in the words
'prepare' and 'stop'.
Haroon shows the symbol of allophone with a raised diacritic
mark (h) on the board.
HAROON
Now in the word 'prepare' the phoneme
[p] has two allophones, an aspirated
allophone in the initial position,
and another, unaspirated allophone
in the medial position.
One of the students interrupts Haroon.
THE STUDENT
What do you mean by aspirated and
unaspirated sir?
HAROON
Good question. Aspiration is a puff of air
that gets out of our mouth when we pronounce
any phoneme in the initial and mid position
of a word. E.g., in the word 'pot' the [p]
is aspirated and when you take your finger
in front of your mouth while you pronounce
'pot' you feel a puff of air coming out.
In the same way, when you say 'prepare' the
first [p] has an aspirated allophone in the
onset and an unaspirated allophone in the
medial position. However, in the word 'stop',
the phoneme [p] at the final position is
called un-released, meaning that it's neither
aspirated, nor unaspirated and if you say
'stop' and take your finger close to your
lips, you don't feel any puff of air coming
out.
Haroon shows the aspiration symbol by drawing a raised 'h'
on the right corner of the phoneme [p] on the board.
HAROON
Any questions?
The students are silent taking note.
HAROON
That's all for today. Study at home
and bring your questions for the
next class. See you tomorrow.
Rawul comes to Haroon and gives him a piece of paper on which
he has written something about Manjeet, his friend. Haroon
opens the folded paper and reads the note: "Sir, Manjeet is
addicted to gambling nowadays. Whatever he gets from his
parents, he gambles and drinks in the club called "The Rose"
located at the end of Mall Rd."
HAROON
(tapping at the Rawul's
shoulder)
Thank you so much Rawul. I'll take
care of this.
CUT TO:
INT. ROSE CLUB - AFTERNOON
Wearing his bulletproof vest and helmet and disguising himself
as an old man with a big chapeau on head and a strong steel
cane in hand, Haroon enters the club to find Manjeet.
There are many men and women, young, middle age and old.
Some are sitting around tables gambling with cards. Haroon
finds Manjeet around a table playing with four other men,
two of them having girls on their sides wearing Indian Saries
with shirts that display some parts of their breasts.
Music is on and a somewhat pretty girl is dancing with half-
naked red dress. Haroon goes directly to Manjeet's table.
It seems that Manjeet has won the last round. He is
distributing the cards and has got a lot of money in front
of him.
Haroon stands behind Manjeet and waits for a few moments.
One man flings, the second, doubles and the 'chal' is now
Rs.1000.00. The man whose turn is to put money, drops his
card on the table. Manjeet reads his cards and finds out
that he has got 'two eikey' and one 'badshah'. He puts a
Rs.1000 note on the pile of money in the middle of the table.
MANJETT
Yeh mera chaal.
Another man wearing a black suit reads his cards and throws
Rs.1000 on the table saying:
THE MAN IN BLACK
Or yeh mera.
The third man who has doubled, reads his cards and finds out
that he has 'two eikey' and a 'begum'. He pulls the hand of
his girlfriend besides him saying:
THE THIRD MAN
Hey my queen! Come on give me a kiss
for this might be your lucky day.
He kisses his girlfriend from the cheeks and throws Rs.5000.00
on the table.
THE THIRD MAN
Yeh hey mera chal, Rs.5000.
MANJETT
(looking at his cards
again adds Rs.5000)
Mera be yeh 5000.
The man with the black suit declines to put more money. He
throws his cards having two 'ghualm' and a 'diamond 9' on
the table saying:
THE MAN IN BLACK
Es cards ke saht, Rs.5000 jana
akalmandi nahey hey.
Now Manjeet and the rich man who is playing in the name of his
girlfriend have remained. He and Manjeet exchange Rs.5000 a couple
of times and there is a heap of money on the table. Finally, the
man puts his last Rs.5000.00 on the table saying to Manjeet:
THE THIRD MAN
Chalo show karna.
Manjeet shows his cards, two eikeys and a badsha. Collecting
the money from the table, Manjeet says:
MANJETT
Eysa lakta hey ke bakht ka badsha,
a'j es club mey apney ha't merey sar
par rakkah hey.
HAROON
(taking his hand on
top of Manjeet's
head)
Mera ha't jo tomharey sar par hey.
Manjeet who is drowned in his fancy world of gambling suddenly
feels that this voice is familiar to him. He takes a look
at his back and finds Haroon.
MANJETT
Sir, a'p edar?
HAROON
Come on, let's go, this should be
your final day here.
Manjeet gets up to go with Haroon, but one of the men who
has lost insists to play more.
THE MAN
A'p eysey nahey ja sakteh.
MANJETT
Keyon, a'p kohn hey hamey rokneywaley?
TH MAN
(giving a slap on
Manjeet's face)
Mey houn tomhara Bab.
Manjeet attacks hitting with his head on the stomach of the
man. The fight goes on. Haroon tries to separate them, but
the man attacks him too. Haroon defends twisting the man's
hand and pushing him away. The man falls on the ground.
Getting up the man calls his friends:
THE MAN
Rocky, Emran, Suneel! Come on.
Two men dancing with their girlfriends and another drinking
at the bar counter, leave their romance and come to help
their rich friend. The man tries to punch Haroon saying:
THE MAN
Tomey nahey maloom tooney keskey
saht panga leyahey.
Haroon moves to the side. One man takes on Manjeet and the
other two start fighting with Haroon who has taken a defensive
position. Haroon finds Manjeet too weak to fight his rival,
so he jumps in the middle to help his student. Striking
Manjeet's rival with a side kick, Haroon throws him a couple
of meters away.
HAROON
(to the men who are
coming closer and
closer to hit him)
Dekey bai sahab, mey to solah karney
walata. Magar woh a'p ka dost khod
ney lafra shuro kardeya.
Haroon finds himself, encircled by the men.
HAROON
Hey guys, I suggest we stop fighting
and solve the problem peacefully.
But nobody listens to Haroon. One of the bad guys takes a
wooden table from the club and breaks it on Haroon's head.
Having the helmet, Haroon doesn't get hurt. The table breaks
apart and showers our hero with pieces of wood.
Haroon uses his steel cane as an AIKIDO sword hitting the
bad guys. Now Haroon has the upper hand. A couple of tables,
chairs, bottles plates and glasses of the hotel break. There
is a lull in the fighting. The bad guys being hurt by
Haroon's strikes now cannot fight very well. The manager of
the club comes and pushes Haroon by the shoulder.
THE MANAGER
Hary bai, tom kohn ho, keya ho, or
keya bala ho jo a'j amara business
kharab kardeya.
HAROON
Eik minute, mey abhee bata hounga
keh mey kohn houn, keya houn, or
keya bala houn?
Haroon goes to the stage of the club and takes a guitar from
one of the guitarists who was playing before the fight.
Haroon plays the guitar and sings.
HAROON
Meh keya houn, mey kohn houn? Mey tan houn, keh jan houn?
Yeh kohi najaney, keh mey keya bala houn.
While Haroon sings, dances and plays the guitar, other
musicians also follow suit. Sometimes during Haroon's
performance, one or two bad guys come back to fight. But
Haroon both fights and sings taking care of everything. The
remaining club customers who were about to vacate the place,
go back to their seats. New people start coming and the
manager and the staff work to reorganize the place. Everyone
likes Haroon's dancing, singing and fighting.
Agar kohi poochey keh mey houn kahan sey
Bata houn keh mey a'gaya Canada sey
Agar cheh, mey Kabul mey paida howa houn
Mgar mera khoon hey, es Hindo-setan sey
Meh keya houn, mey kohn houn? Mey tan houn, keh jan houn?
Yeh kohey najaney keh mey keya bala houn
Kahey den mey apney shahr sey juda houn
Kahey raht-o- mey apney gar sey juda houn Meh houn shame

Qena'at keh sahil mey jabtak rahounga
Hamisha mey mouj-o- khatar sey juda houn
Meh keya houn, mey kohn houn? Mey tan houn, keh jan houn?
Yeh kohey najaney keh mey keya bala houn
Jo pahtar ko torta hey, sheeshey sey yaroun
Bahot teez houn apney peshey sey yaroun
Mey baga howa houn kahee den sey gahr sey
Mohabat hawa hey mujhey es safar sey
Mey kya jano yaroun, qaza-o- qadar sey
Key shayad meloun mey, kesey hamsafar sey
Meh keya houn, mey kohn houn? Mey tan houn, keh jan houn?
Yeh kohey najaney keh mey keya bala houn.
Haroon finishes his song and wants to leave, but the club
manager comes to speak with him.
THE MANAGER
Well done young man, well done.
Keya gahtey hey a'p, keya guitar
bajatey hey a'p! Wah bai sahab wah.
A'p ke ta'reef?
HAROON
Nam hey Haroon. Gana mera shouq

THE MANAGER
Acha to Haroon sahab, mey houn Afzal

Making a pause, Haroon points to a man who has got very drank
and left his wife alone around a table with his friends.
And he himself dances with another woman.
HAROON
Juwa ka borahi to a'p ney deka. Ab

(Pointing to a drunk man
in the corner of the club)

HAROON
That's right.
HAROON
The Qura'n says that "there is a
gross sin and some benefits for the
people in the intoxicants and
gambling. But their sinfulness far
outweighs their benefits".
TE MANAGER
It's good that you reminded me sir.
A'j ke ba'd, mey es Rose club ka nam

THE MANAGER
Thank you very much sir.
HAROON
See you then at 05:00 P.M. on Saturday
night. Khuda Hafiz.
Haroon signals towards Majneet to leave the club.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, MUMBAI - DAY
Haroon is standing in front of the information desk of a
Toyota Dealership. When his turn comes, he approaches the
receptions who is a pretty woman at her 30s.
HAROON
(Giving an A4 page to
the receptionist)
Good morning. I'm Haroon Malotra.
My father, Madan Malotra has ordered
a special Toyota Land Cruiser for me
from Japan. According to the document
I gave you, the vehicle must have
arrived here by now.
THE RECEPTIONIST
O' yes Mr. Haroon. Your bulletproof
car has arrived here. It's been
thoroughly checked. So you can take
it now. But let me inform my manager.
The receptionist calls her manager via the Inter-come.
THE RECEPTIONIST
Sir, Mr. Haroon Malotra is here to
pick up his Land Cruiser.
THE MANAGER (O.S.)
Great! I'm coming right away.
Moments later, a well dressed senior man appears with a couple
of keys and a file in hand. He greets Haroon saying:
THE MANAGER
Good morning Mr. Haroon. I'm so glad
to see you here. Your car is parked
outside. Please come with me.
The manager walks towards the exit door of the showroom with
Haroon following him. Out in a parking area, the manager
stops besides a luxury Land Cruiser.
THE MANAGER
(giving three keys
and a paper file to
Haroon)
Mr. Haroon! Here are your keys and
there is the ownership paper in the
file. We've taken care of the Licence
Plate as per your father's request.
So, enjoy the ride.
HAROON
(taking the keys and
the file from the
manager)
Thank you so much sir. Have a great day.
THE MANAGER
You too sir.
Haroon gets in the Land Cruiser and turns the engine on. He
takes his cell phone and sends a text message to Soorach
informing him of his going to Bombay Hospital's Mental Health
Ward where Dr. Nazaneen works. Haroon asks Soorach to come
as soon as possible for he has to help him in some acting.
INT. BOMBAY HOSPITAL, MENTAL HEALTH WARD - DAY
Haroon is sitting on a wheelchair acting out the role of a
mentally retarded patient in front of the reception desk of
Mental Health Ward of the hospital.
SOORACH
(talking to a man in
the information desk)
Sir! This is my friend and due to
some kind of shock, he can't react
to anything. He talks to himself
most of the time and doesn't make
any eye contact with others. I want
you to admit him assigning Dr.
Nazaneen for his treatment.
THE MAN IN THE INFORMATION DESK
(with wide grin)
OK Sir.
SOORACH
A'p paisey ka kohey chenta matkeejeh.
I'll deposit Rs.50000 in advance.
INT. A BIG ROOM, MENTAL HEALTH WARD - DAY
Haroon is still acting out as a mentally retarded person among
many other lunatics. Outside the room, it's a beautiful sunny
morning with mild weather of December in Bombay. As soon as
Nazaneen arrives at the hospital, she calls Asha, her assistant.
NAZANEEN
Asha! O Asha!
ASHA (O.S.)
Yes madame.
NAZANEEN
It's a nice day. So get your staff and
take the patients outside in the open
air. I'll be there in a couple of
minutes. Meney sona hey ke eik naya
patient kal raht admit ogaya hey. I
want to examine him in the garden.
ASHA
OK madame.
EXT. A BIG GARDEN FULL OF FLOWERS - MORNING
There are five to six mentally retarded patients on wheel chairs
in the garden. Asha is standing in front of Haroon who is gazing
at something far away making no eye contact with her.
ASHA
(calling one of her
colleagues by the
name of Shietal)
Sheital! O Sheital
SHEITAL
(from a couple of
meters away)

ASHA

Sheital wants to say something, but Nazaneen who has arrived
at the garden interrupts her. Hearing Nazaneen's voice Haroon
lowers his head down on his chest.
NAZANEEN
Keya hey? A'p dono kes ke barey mey
baht kar rahey tey?
ASHA
Es naya patient ke barey mey. A'p
khod zara nazdeek sey deyk leejey.
Nazaneen comes closer to take a look at the new patient.
She puts her right hand under Haroon's chin and slowly lifts
his head. Seeing Haroon, comes like a shock to Nazaneen.
NAZANEEN
Tom yaha!
HAROON
Jee ah, mey yaha. Jaha jahengey,
hamey payengey.
ASHA
Hary yeh patient to madame ke saht

Del mey terey iqrar hey, hotoun pey keyoun inkar hey
Mujko bata eiy jan-e- man, akher yeh keysa peyar hey?
Haroon dances playing the guitar and a couple of nurses and
hospital staff join him.
A'u mera saht deydo, dosti ka ha't deydo, dosti ka ha't deydo.
Mere chahat ke chaman mey, eik pal barsa't deydo.
Terey baghair eiy Nazaneen, jeena mera dushwar hey

Tom dadkanoun ka geet houn, jeewan ka har sangeet houn
Tom zendagee, tom bandagee, tom roshani, tom tazagee
Tom har khoshi, tom peyar houn".
The poet of the above part of the poem must be contacted and
the copyright issue must be solved.
Tom sey baghair ey Nazaneen, jeena mera dushwar hey
Es hospital mey dekloun, ham bee terey beemar hey,
Del mey terey iqrar hey, hotoun pey keyoun inkar hey
Mujko bata eiy jan-e- man, akher yeh keysa peyar hey?

INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
Mr. Malik, the corrupt politician is sleeping with a girl on
his bed. It's the beginning of the night when his cell phone
rings. Keeping the girl in his embrace with one hand, he tries
to reach the phone that is under the night stand with another.
MALIK
(Seeing Jagatpal's
name on the screen
of his cell phone)
Ufoh! Yeh Jagatpal sahab bee hamisha
ghalat time per phone karta hey.
Lying on bed and the girl still in his lap, Mr. Malik answers

MALIK

INT. A SPACIOUS HALL IN A FARM HOUSE - EVENING
There are many guests from politicians, businessmen,
celebrities and government officials in Jagatpal's party.
Haroon arrives on time at the top of the hour as mentioned
in the invitation card, 06:00 P.M to 09:00 P.M. As Haroon
enters the hall, Jagatpal who is talking with Malik and a
couple of high ranking government officials and business
tycoons in a circle excuses himself for a minute.
JAGATPAL
(to his guest)
Excuse me gentlemen, I'll be back in
a minute.
Jagatpal goes towards the entrance door of the hall where
Haroon has just entered. He greets Haroon giving him a warm
welcome.
JAGATPAL
Haroon Sahab, a'p amarey es modest
party mey a'kar hamey bahot khosh
kardeya. Hamney socha ta ke a'p
nahey a'yengey.
HAROON
Jagatpal sahab! A'p bola-yeh or ham
na a'yeh, yeh kesey osakta hey.
Jagatpal introduces Haroon to other guests, businessmen,
high ranking politicians and M.Ps.
JAGATPAL
(to Haroon and pointing
to a man wearing
simple Indian clothes
with a white hat)
Haroon Sahab, ensey meleyeh. Yeh
hey Dr. Vejeh Sihna, Minister of
Transportation, who is on a tour of
Bombay. Yeh hey Mr. Mohan Shrivastav
an MP from the Congress Party. Or
yeh hey Mr. Malik, my business partner
and another MP from Bombay.
Haroon greets each one with Namasty and nice meeting you.
JAGATPAL
(Pointing to Haroon)
And this is Mr. Haroon Malotra, Afghan
Indo-Canadian businessman, social
worker, singer and songwriter. Enko
jetney tareef karey, utnahi kam hey.
HAROON
Jagatpal sahab, a'p hamey sharmenda

Mr. Malik interferes in the conversation.

HAROON
A'p hamare bahrey mey bahot koch

MALIK
Ham yeh bee jantey hey ke a'p peyar ke

Jagatpal interrupts Mr. Malik.
JAGATPAL
Mr. Malik! Kahna tayyar hey, baqi
batey dinner ke saht karengey.
Some guests are getting their own food from the open buffet,
but a couple of tables have been reserved for VVIPs. Jagatpal
leads Haroon along with other high ranking guests to an
exclusive dinner table on which different kinds of dishes,
desserts and fruits such as apples, grapes, banana, oranges,
and peaches are set in a very professional manner. Waiters
and young waitresses serve the food to the guest. Finishing
dinner, Haroon puts some grapes and an orange on his plate
and eats them. A few moments later, Jagatpal offers Haroon
a cup of wine.
JAGATPAL
Yeh leijey Haroon Sahab, mey ney a'p
kehleyeh tora sey sharab laya.
HAROON
Shukria Jagatpal sahab. Mey sharab

JAGATPAL
(To Mr. Malik)

kardeya, kohey khas waja? Aakher yeh
sharab bee yahey angoor sey a'ta hey.
MALIK
(taking side with
Jagatpal)
A'p ney teeg kaha Jagatpal Sahab,
Farsi shaheri mey sharab ka eik or
nam hey 'dukhtar-e- raz' meaning the
daughter of vine. Omar Kheyam has
used this term in his four-line verses
saying " Then I'll get married to
the daughter of vine".
HAROON
People sleep with their wives, but
they don't sleep with their daughters.
In the same way, I don't drink the
daughter of vine because when it
goes through chemical reactions, it
no longer remains the same grapes.
JAGATPAL
Good analogy.
HAROON
Jee han Jagatpal sahab. Mera kheyal
yeh hey ke sab sey bara nesha
tandurasti mey hey. Yeh a'p ka
"daughter of vine" to tandurusti or
sehat ka dushman hey.
JAGATPAL
Acha to Haroon sahab. A'p businessman
bee hey or social worker bee. These
two professions are like the lines
of a railway track. They never meet.
Therefore, I propose you join us and
invest in our projects that produce
millions overnight. A'p keyoun a'pney
qeemati waqt or paisa in chotey motey
projects ko barbad kar raha hey?
HAROON
Jagatpal sahab! I work to bolster the
economy of the poor and the middle class.
You and your partners work to wipe out
the middle class people making the rich,
richer and the poor, poorer. Yeh mera
usool ka khelaf hey. Merey hesab sey,
business or socialwork donou shana ba
shana chal kar mulk or janta ka economy
mazboot karta hey. Essey leyeh mey kehta
houn keh hamara kam karney ka tareeqa dou
parallel lines ke tara kabhee intersect
nahey karega.
Haroon takes a look at his watch. Then, gets up from the
chair.
HAROON
(looking at Jagatpal)
Jagatpal sahab, ab mey chalta houn.
Thank you for the delicious dinner
and have a great night.
Haroon walks towards the exit door and goes to the parking
of Jagatpal's farmhouse where Karim Khan and Osman are waiting
for him in the car. Karim Khan starts the land cruiser and
exits from Jagatpal's farmhouse.
INT. BACK SEAT OF HAROON'S LAND CRUISER - NIGHT
Haroon takes his cell phone and starts searching a number.
He finds the number and presses the make a call button. The
phone keeps on ringing. And before long, a man's voice is
heard.
THE MAN (O.S.)

Sahab.)
Haroon disconnects the phone.

community soon. And I wanted you to

once or twice a week, fine.
Otherwise, we will be ready to pay
you.
NAZANEEN
In that case I'm ready to volunteer
for a couple of hours. I'll check
my schedule and let you know. Now
I've got to go.
Nazaneen walks through the exit door. Haroon takes an
invitation card from the drawer of his desk and follows her
quickly.
HAROON
Excuse me Madame. Eik or request
